Today’s build gets us closer to an updated App Store release of Bops: Now Playing for Apple TV. Read on for more.

New features

Track metadata now gently shimmers when playing by default. You can turn this off if you’d like!

Refinements

A new “animation interactivity” setting is available to tweak animations to your liking. Long touch to view current animation details, long press to cycle through options.

Animation interactivity

Animation transitions between active/idle states are now smoother than before.

Bugfixes

This release contains improvements to the uPnP subscription logic that we depend to receive stream quality information from the connected Sonos device. uPnP subscriptions have a timeout, after which they’re no longer valid for renewal. Our previous approach for renewal sometimes missed the timeout window and then continued to try to renew a stale subscription for a bit before giving up, leading to intermittent gaps in the connection that provides this info. Subscriptions are now more consistently maintained, as this cool little graph shows:

Release status

I’m feeling pretty good about this build as a candidate for an App Store release. I’ll be testing it on my Apple TVs for a few days, and if all goes well I’ll submit it to the store with some updated screenshots.

To those who have been testing recent beta builds and sending in feedback: thank you! Bops would not be what it is today without your help.

Please reach out if you have any issues with this most recent build, or if you have any feedback on the new features or refinements. I would love to hear from you! pal@urcomputeringpal.com
